A Description of My Work

Some of us are thrilled to jump out of airplanes with parachutes and others need to feel the earth beneath our feet. Some are insomniacs, while others sleep in deep peace. Some of us want to change the world, while others want to nest at home puttering in the garden. How any of us view and experience our life in a given moment or over time is a function of the confluence of energetics and information from within oneself, our environment and our interactions with each other. We are multidimensional beings and, when circumstances and events manifest, we respond physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. And, on each of these levels of being, we carry memories, beliefs and values that influence our way of being in the world.

For over 20 years now, I have been helping individuals, couples, and families who want to improve the quality of their lives. My goal is to assist them in claiming the best of themselves Counseling & Conflict Resolution Services through a process of exploring the underlying beliefs and values that are responsible for the way they are currently living their lives. In order to empower clients to make lasting changes, I introduce them to tools and techniques necessary to alter their patterns so they can live with greater ease, grace, and joy. We meet in the comfort of my home or by phone. My style is eclectic, drawing upon my own journey of personal growth, self-discovery and spiritual development as well as on my professional training.

The therapeutic process is highly personalized, reflecting your worldview, unique set of strengths, and what causes you to resist or reject yourself, your life circumstances, or your relationships with others. In our time together, we will explore your ways of living and expressing yourself in a non-judgmental and compassionate, yet pragmatic way. We'll look at the ways you support yourself, as well as how you may get in the way of creating, promoting, or allowing your goals, dreams, and successes to come forward. Distresses are not always large, looming secrets from childhood, but rather can be small palpitations of resistance to moving forward in a given direction. We look for mental and emotional patterns and build upon those that support greater health and well-being, and unravel those which interfere. Our exploration is focused on how you internally navigate through your life experiences. For example, many people are approaching their lives with fear of repeating past mistakes. Ironically, this myopic focus makes them unavailable to participate in the present moment which is the only time they could choose to make desired changes. The key is looking from the inside out rather than from the outside in. For many, breaking the habit of living in a reactive mode is an enormous liberation.

For those with a spiritual frame of reference, mental and emotional patterns are viewed within the context of living as a spiritual being. For example, for some, the pronoun "I" refers to the self as a soul rather than simply your body and personality. Within this context, the body, mind and emotions are useful tools for functioning on their respective levels of reality and can be the source of imbalances that block spiritual awareness. In my work, I honor all religious and spiritual traditions and am available to assist you in looking at the profound questions of your life's purpose and meaning.

Ultimately, it is my purpose and privilege to help you in freeing yourself from the illusions, addictive patterns and fears that block you. The work is evolutionary and transformative as you reach higher and higher ground, revealing more profound perspectives of yourself and life as you embrace your authenticity, freedom and joy.

How My Counseling Practice Evolved
  • Around 1986, some of my consulting clients began to ask me to work with them privately in the capacity of a coach or counselor. This was before there were terms like "Executive Coach" and "Life Coach". As more and more clients came to me, I worked with them in both the context of their personal and professional lives. Ever since, I have maintained a private counseling and conflict resolution practice, working mostly with individuals and families.

  • Since my first Insight Training Seminar in 1981, I have engaged in a conscious journey of self-discovery and healing and regularly attend training programs that both nourish me in my own process and strengthen my skills in helping others.

  • From 1994-1998, I studied Social Psychology at The Union Institute and University where I obtained my Ph.D.
